Senior Director – Commercial & Place

Location: Home-based (occasional UK-wide travel required) 

Salary: From £90,000 per annum 

Contract: Permanent 

Hours: 35 hours per week (full time) 

Reports in: Directors

About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Director – Commercial & Place to lead a major stream of business activity within our organisation. This is a senior leadership role with a strong commercial and Place-based focus, supporting public sector clients to deliver sustainable outcomes, unlock value from assets, and drive long-term regeneration and growth.

Reporting to the Business Unit Director, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across complex programmes and projects, with responsibility for commercial performance, income generation, team leadership and client satisfaction.

This role is pivotal in shaping and delivering our Commercial and Place offer, combining deep commercial acumen with an understanding of place-making, regeneration, infrastructure delivery and long-term partnership models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee a significant portfolio of commercial and place-based programmes and projects, ensuring delivery to time, cost and quality standards.

  • Act as a senior commercial lead, providing assurance and strategic advice on:

  • Commercial strategy and delivery models

  • Contract management, variations, expiry and transition

  • Development agreements, joint ventures and partnership structures

  • Asset optimisation and income generation strategies

  • Hold overall accountability for financial performance, including income, expenditure, utilisation and billing.

  • Contribute to Practice Area and corporate business planning, including financial forecasting and market analysis.

  • Build and maintain strong senior-level client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor to SROs and senior stakeholders.

  • Identify opportunities for cross-referral, new commissions and growth across the organisation.

  • Provide visible, inspirational leadership to Directors and multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Ensure robust governance, risk management and high-quality outputs across all outputs.

Job Description

About You

You will be a confident senior leader with a strong track record in commercial delivery and place-based programmes, ideally within or alongside the public sector.

You will bring:

  • Extensive experience leading complex programmes or portfolios.

  • Strong commercial expertise, including contract management.

  • Experience supporting place-based delivery such as regeneration, estates, housing or infrastructure.

  • Excellent financial and commercial awareness.

  • Proven ability to operate credibly with senior officers, members and external partners.

  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
