Organisational Development Adviser

*** Fixed term for six months with the possibility of extending until March 2026***

Location: Westminster, London (minimum two days per week in the office)

As our Organisational Development Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in how we grow and evolve - co-creating a culture that puts people first while driving high performance.

You’ll lead on designing and delivering bold strategies that strengthen leadership, develop talent, and build trust across teams. You’ll also bring data and insight into how we align our capabilities with future challenges - all while fostering inclusion, dignity, and collaboration.

This role calls for someone who is adaptable, imaginative, and solutions-focused - someone who can think strategically, act decisively, and lead with empathy and ambition.

About you

You’ll bring a strong track record of delivering organisational development in high-performing environments, with a deep understanding of what drives people, performance and culture. You’ll be confident working at pace, influencing senior stakeholders, and translating insight into action.

You’ll be someone who thrives in complexity, values inclusion, and is excited by the opportunity to shape the future of work and leadership in local government..

You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.

We are specifically assessing candidates against the following criteria:

  1. Lead the implementation of continuous performance conversations and feedback mechanisms across the organisation that support a culture of accountability, development, and excellence.

  2. Provide coaching and mentoring to leaders and managers to support behavioural and cultural change.

  3. Conduct organisation-wide skills audits to identify current capabilities and future skills gaps.

  4. Support the development and implementation of strategic workforce planning processes to ensure the organisation has the right people, with the right skills, in the right roles.

  5. Lead or contribute to cross-organisational projects that support strategic transformation and cultural change.

  6. Develop and deliver organisational development interventions ensuring high levels of engagement and measurable impact across teams and leadership.

  • LGA annual leave entitlement is 29 days, rising to 31 days after three years’ service and to 33 days after five years’ service, plus all UK public holidays (pro rata for fixed term and part time contracts).*

  • Flexible & agile working – office-based staff are required to work in the LGA’s London office two days per week as a minimum, subject to business need and this may vary significantly between different roles and from week to week.
