About us
The Local Government Association (LGA) is the national membership body for local authorities. We work on behalf of our member councils to support, promote and improve local government.
We are a politically led, cross-party organisation that works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government. We influence and set the political agenda on the issues that matter to councils to help them deliver local solutions to national problems.
We also provide councils with the tools and resources to respond to challenges present and emerging, and support improvement across the sector.
We value diversity and encourage applications from all sections of the community to this high-profile role.
About the role
Are you highly organised, detail-oriented, and passionate about supporting innovative income-generating projects within local government? We are looking for a Programme Support Officer to join our Business Development Team and help deliver commercial initiatives that support councils and strengthen the LGA’s financial sustainability.
In this role, you will provide essential administrative and programme support, helping to develop and coordinate income-generating projects, maintain accurate records, and assist in the preparation of reports, commercial bids, and marketing materials. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure the smooth delivery of commercial activities.
This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to meaningful work of local government in a dynamic, commercially focused environment.
About You
You are a proactive and organised individual with a keen eye for detail and a “can do” attitude. You enjoy working in a fast-paced target-driven commercial environment and are confident managing multiple tasks and deadlines. You are comfortable using Microsoft Office tools and have experience supporting projects or programmes, ideally in a commercial and public sector setting.
You bring valuable experience in supporting income-generating projects, along with strong organisational and administrative skills within a commercial environment. You're proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook – and quick to learn new software packages. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills complement your collaborative and flexible approach to teamwork. Additionally, you have a solid understanding of how local government operates.
Please refer to the Job description for full requirements of this role.
You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to learn new packages quickly.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with robust attention to detail.
A collaborative and flexible approach, with a “can-do” attitude and the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external partners.
