The Local Government Association (LGA) is the national membership body for local authorities. We work on behalf of our member councils to support, promote and improve local government.

About the role

We are looking for a Programme Support Officer to support the delivery of the LGA’s Finance Improvement programme.The financial pressures experienced by local authorities have never been greater, and so this sector support programme is more necessary than ever.

We’re looking for someone who can provide support to our programme, including some additional responsibilities which are reflected in an enhanced salary for the role.

In this role you will provide essential administrative and programme support to key offers such as our Chief Finance Officers mentoring scheme. You'll help to organise and support meetings and events, monitor delivery of our support offers and ensure we comply with reporting requirements to our funders, coordinate procurement of suppliers and work with others to gather case studies and other information to demonstrate the value of our offers.

About you

You are a proactive and organised individual with a keen eye for detail and a ‘can do’ attitude. You are confident managing multiple tasks and deadlines and working as part of a team. You are comfortable using Microsoft Office tools and have experience of organising meetings, events or other activities.You can summarise key information clearly and ensure compliance with the LGA’s policies and processes.

You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.

  1. Previous administrative experience and knowledge of office systems, software packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, outlook and the internet, ideally gained in a project based environment.

  2. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with robust attention to detail

  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  4. Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal with members, colleagues and external partners with courtesy, tact and sensitivity, the ability to exercise discretion, judgement, and confidentiality, and to demonstrate political neutrality at all times.

  5. A collaborative and flexible approach, with a “can-do” attitude.
