About us
The Local Government Association (LGA) is the national voice of local government. We work with councils to support, promote and improve local government.
The Local Government Association (LGA) and Association of Directors of Adult Social Services are Partners in Care and Health (PCH) working with well-respected organisations. PCH helps councils to improve the way they deliver adult social care and public health services and helps Government understand the challenges faced by the sector.
We are a politically-led, cross-party organisation which works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government. We aim to influence and set the political agenda on the issues that matter to councils, so they are able to deliver local solutions to national problems; as well as support local authorities with their own self-improvement.
The Local Government Association (LGA) is undergoing an ambitious transformation programme to ensure we remain a strong, effective and sustainable voice for local government. This is an exciting time to work for us.
About the role
We are recruiting to two roles – one in the core LGA Research and Information Team working across local government services, and one in the Partners in Care and Health (PCH) programme with a specific focus on adult social care.
We are looking for team players with data analysis skills who can write and communicate well, have good organisational abilities, and who can design and deliver surveys and conduct data analysis and to draw out and communicate key insights. You will have exceptional data visualisation skills, attention to detail and experience of using analysis software such as Excel to create engaging data visualisations to answer specific questions.
The successful candidates can expect to take on a varied portfolio of work that supports and promotes local authorities.
About you
The successful candidates in both roles will design and deliver surveys and conduct data analysis; commission research; provide data and analytic services for the LGA; and plan and manage the delivery of workstreams or portfolios of research and data work. The two posts are in either:
Research and Information Team
The Research and Data Analyst in this team will deliver evidence for the LGA’s policy development and lobbying work, evaluate and provide information for sector support and deliver our LG Inform data service to authorities. The team’s work is varied, widely used within the organisation and often features in the media.
PCH Team
We are looking for someone with experience and knowledge of adult social care and a keen interest in helping to shape and support a programme of work for effective use of data and intelligence across Partners in Care and Health’s offer of sector-led improvement for adult social care and public health. You will help to develop new reports, tools and visual representations of data, and intelligence for adult social care and carry out day-to-day ad-hoc requests to meet reporting and other data requirements.
You will be responsible for developing and managing our insight and impact evaluation surveys, ensuring that robust data quality arrangements are in place for any surveys, collections and resulting analysis and outputs.
For either post, it’s essential that you have both research (particularly survey) skills and data analysis skills and can write and communicate well. We are looking for team players with good organisational abilities, and ideally experience of commissioning research and managing staff and/or contractors to deliver projects successfully.
The successful candidate can expect to take on a range of work that supports and promotes local authorities and helps them to improve.
Job descriptions for both posts are below. To find out more information about what it’s like to work at the LGA, please visit 'Benefits and working for the LGA'; and for information on equality and diversity at the LGA, please visit 'Equality and diversity at the LGA'.
You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.
